An Introduction
I was never a reader growing up. Books were detestable, a waste of my time. Oh, how wrong I was in my youth. One day, I picked up a novel tied to a popular film franchise, and was amazed at how cool the story was. Wow, a book was just as good, if not better than the original films! There was no doubt about it, I had to get my hands on more books; other series, other genres. I found myself surrounded by books, my wife would tell me I needed to get rid of some… and I thought that was absurd!
Then I had this yearning, a deep desire to tell my own story. I joined a writers group to get connected with like minded folks, people that wanted to tell their own stories. Those days were a blast. One of the men in the group finished a story and actually had it published. As for me, after the writers group had dissolved (as it was connected to a company that crumbled), I was left with notebooks and journals full of unfinished stories. The world building written down in those notes are incredible, massive, and extremely detailed. After my wife and I started having children, the writing was put on the back burner.
So, I haven’t been writing, but I’ve been reading and reviewing books for nearly a decade now. While that can be fun at times, the urge to tell one of my own stories is growing rapidly. I’m wanting to take a break from reading everyone else’s art, and publish my own! It will be a challenging adventure I know, but I know I can do it.
A Fresh Start
January, the perfect time to pick up where I left off with writing. The start of a new year, with its occasional snow days provides a few extra hours to put ideas to paper. I picked up the January/February 2024 edition of Writer’s Digest, a magazine all about writing. It was was a great investment, the best investment at the start of the year. The issue is full of wonder advice, with things I needed to hear(read)! Many years ago I was a subscriber of WD and I always enjoyed the magazine, but this latest issue may top them all. This almost comes across like an ad… sorry, I really don’t mean to turn this into a Writer’s Digest review, but I’m not kidding, it’s truly been a helpful tool.
I started this new website and created a new twitter/X account with the hope of communicating with other writers. This journey may be a difficult one, but I will get a story done, I WILL SUCCEED. The first piece will likely be a novella. However, the occasional micro-fiction and short story will appear here on the website. Heck, I may even post a few reviews of books too!
God bless you all.
